This role owns real-time programming decisions, optimizes how stories appear across platforms, and drafts high-impact alerts and headlines that help audiences quickly understand why a story matters to their money.</p> <p> </p> <p>The ideal candidate possesses strong news judgment, sharp presentation instincts (visuals, headlines, etc.), and a deep interest in markets, business, and personal finance. You operate exceptionally well in evolving, AI-augmented digital environments, viewing advanced technology as a tool to increase your creative scale, throughput, and impact without compromising on accuracy or trust.</p> <p> </p> <p><b><i>This position requires a consistent weekend schedule, meaning standard days off will be on weekdays.</i></b></p> <p> </p> <p><b>What You’ll Do</b></p> <ul> <li>Program Yahoo Finance desktop, mobile web, and app experiences with a focus on breaking news, markets coverage, analysis, personal finance, and major tentpole moments.</li> <li>Utilize approved generative AI tools (such as Google Gemini) to brainstorm, draft, and iterate on high-performing headlines and mobile push alert variations at scale, optimizing for audience CTR and readability.</li> <li>Optimize story placement, headlines, thumbnails, framing, and recirculation to improve engagement and keep Yahoo Finance feeling essential throughout the day.</li> <li>Leverage approved AI-assisted visual editing and asset-generation tools (such as Adobe Firefly) to rapidly iterate on story thumbnails and visual assets, adapting imagery in real time to match audience signals.</li> <li>Write, edit, and send mobile alerts that are timely, accurate, and useful, translating complex financial news into clear, urgent language for broad audiences.</li> <li>Use analytics platforms (e.g., Chartbeat, Google Trends) to inform every programming decision across story placement, headline framing, recirculation, and alert strategy, acting as an IC3-level resource by proactively sharing performance insights across the newsroom.</li> <li>Contribute to a fast, test-and-learn culture where strong editorial judgment is paired with performance data, AI-augmented workflows, and systematic experimentation.</li> <li>Partner closely with editors, reporters, video, social, product, and analytics teams to align programming decisions with the biggest editorial priorities and audience opportunities.</li> <li>Work closely with the video teams to identify compelling content and storylines and help surface, package, and distribute them across Yahoo Finance platforms.</li> <li>Evaluate and program a high volume of syndicated content from a wide range of providers, applying editorial judgment to select stories that fit Yahoo Finance’s voice and audience priorities.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><b>Qualifications</b></p> <ul> <li>3+ years of experience working as an editor at a media organization, with experience in digital media, newsroom programming, audience development, or homepage editing.</li> <li>Strong editorial judgment and experience making real-time framing decisions in a high-velocity news environment.</li> <li>Comfort using Chartbeat and other real-time analytics tools to monitor performance.</li> <li>Professional experience with headline writing, content curation, copy editing, SEO, Google Trends, and analytics platforms.</li> <li>A genuine interest in following finance news closely and understanding how major stories affect everyday users as well as active investors.</li> <li>A sharp instinct for packaging journalism in ways that drive clicks, engagement, and loyalty without sacrificing clarity or trust.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience utilizing generative AI applications (e.g., Google Gemini, ChatGPT) for structured prompt engineering, copy refinement, and creative brainstorming.</li> <li>Strong competency in human-in-the-loop editorial governance, showcasing the critical thinking required to validate, fact-check, and refine AI-generated text outputs to ensure they align with brand style and voice guidelines.</li> <li>An AI-forward mindset with an active interest in identifying repetitive, manual workflow tasks and designing automated or AI-assisted alternatives to increase editorial speed.</li> <li>Strong collaboration skills and a calm, solutions-oriented approach during big news moments.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><b>Preferred Qualifications</b></p> <ul> <li>Background in financial journalism, personal finance, investing, or business news.</li> <li>Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides.</li> <li>Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.</p> <p> </p> <p>At Yahoo, we offer flexible hybrid work options that our employees love!
