The school will serve grades 7-11 in its first year. The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030. ๐Ÿš€</p><p style="min-height:1.5em">Weโ€™re seeking a passionate and resourceful Middle/High School Academic Counselor to join our team with a start date of July 6, 2026. This is a fully remote counseling role that emphasizes student support, graduation and post-secondary planning, and intervention for struggling students. The academic counselor will serve an integral role in monitoring studentsโ€™ academic progress and developing individualized plans to support students as they work toward their educational goals. They will also play an integral role in student crisis management and reporting, as well as working toward Cognia and NCAA accreditation for the school.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>A Day in the Role</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Collaborate with and onboard parents and students to create individual student academic plans, including reviewing credit requirements, credit transfer requests, and dual enrollment transfers</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support parents, students, and teachers by acting as a liaison for academic communication, providing updates about course progress, grades, and areas of academic strength and struggle</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Communicate with teachers regarding new and updated student academic plans</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Accurately interpret and utilize student data to provide up-to-date information and recommend changes in our new processes as needed</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Monitor student academic performance and partner with parents to ensure students are on track toward graduation</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Create and assist in maintaining student academic intervention and transition plans</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support student wellness efforts and assist in implementing and developing our non-clinical crisis response plans in collaboration with school leadership</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Provide guidance and resources to students that will promote and encourage postsecondary education plans, including college, trade school, military, working abroad, and other pathways</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support our accreditation by completing necessary documentation, facilitating accreditation reviews, and advising administration on strategies to achieve Cognia and NCAA Accreditation</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Collect education and career data of alumni to determine the effectiveness of our school and recommend adjustments as needed</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support upperclassmen in preparing to apply for college</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support student enrollment expansion goals by communicating with prospective parents and providing clear and actionable data to show solutions for their educational needs</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Assist in the creation and upkeep of a course catalog as courses become available or updated</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Conduct exit interviews with parents and students after a transfer or graduation</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Maintain secure and accurate student records</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Maintain the flexibility to transition to other areas of responsibility within the school and within Miaplaza in general during periods of low student counselor need</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Schedule</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">MOAO Teachers are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">A minimum of 25 hours of availability per week during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in the Eastern time zone is required to accommodate office hours, staff collaboration, and student communication.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Some of the work, including student academic planning, can be completed outside of school hours.</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Master's degree or higher in a related field with a certification in school counseling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">3+ years in an academic counseling role at the middle school or high school level</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Strong written and verbal communication skills</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Ability to work independently in a remote setting</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Excellent organizational and multitasking skills</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em">All MOAO staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOAO Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>The ideal candidate also brings:</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with classroom and/or online teaching</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience or certification in mental health counseling for schools</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experienced in other areas of education, such as content creation, assessment design, or assessment administration</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Ability/willingness to attend some in-person field trips and activities in Ohio</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Compensation & Benefits</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">The expected starting pay range is $27.27 - $30.00 per hour. Counselors at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $56,000 - $62,000. </p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Note: Hours worked over 40 hours will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.</p></li></ul></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Miaplaza's compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in labor costs.
